Jonathan Sackier, MB., ChB, FRCS, FACS, is a surgeon by training, who has played a significant role in the development of many medical technologies including laparoscopic surgery, amniotic stem cells and the first commercial surgical robot, AESOP. He is currently a Visiting Professor of Surgery at the University of Virginia. He is chairman of Adenosine Therapeutics and a member on the Board of Directors for several life sciences companies including Hemoshear and Rex Bionics.
In his nearly thirty-year career, Jonathan has held leadership positions in national organizations including the board of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and many others. Jonathan has spoken internationally on technology development and transfer, experimental surgery, laparoscopy, and colonic surgery. He has been active in graduate medical education throughout his career, and lectures regularly at universities around the world. Jonathan has been on several editorial review boards for leading medical journals. He has authored seven books on surgery, and written more than 100 scientific articles. Jonathan earned his medical degrees from Liverpool University Faculty of Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
